Wil gets another First
Monday Presidents day Wil was bored and I sent him out behind the house with his pellet gun to see if he could get a crackle or squirrel. No luck, but he was gone a good while and had a big time adventure in the snow covered woods. Reported sightings included black bird (shot not recovered), ducks, geese, fox tracks, deer tracks, bald eagle, and rubs.
"Dad can we hunt this afternoon??"" Not much in season so we head to a neighbors farm on the atv after a tree rat or two. Good spot we call "Holly Stand" loads of squirrels here while deer hunting. Saw a few with no good oppurtunity, then Wil puts a sneak one "BANG BANG" there he goes dad!!! Climbs a tree about 30yds from me, but to far from Wil for his 20ga. one shot with .22 and I have my first squirrel in many many years. A few others give us the slip at this spot so we decide to move and track down one barking. Took a good while but we found him and after an amusing several long shots from me he he runs right at us and ends up a tree right above Wil. BANG I missed dad. Nope hang on Wil......THUD right at his feet. Boy was he excited about that. Not sure he wasn't as pumped as his first deer. That was fun!!!!

Dovehunt,
Hook that young man up with a decent shooting bolt or single shot .22, mount him a rimfire scope and site it in. He'll learn more about stalking, picking his shots and patience with squirrel's that'll last for a lifetime. I'm still shooting the "used' gold trigger Marlin bolt action I got when I was a kid. No telling how many squirrel's that thing has brought to the dinner table. I enjoy squirreling just as much today as I did many years ago. Went yesterday, got my limit. Frank
