What's Your Favorite Climbing Stand,

I've got an old BuckShot "ElDorado", that I really like. Haven't had any luck finding another one. I prefer to face the tree. I'm looking at getting another one or two. What experiences do you guy's have? Like's, dis-like's? Frank

TREESTAND COMFORT

Treestand comfort is the most important thing about any stand. If, you have one that's great you might be better off staying with it. I believe that you have to try them out first, to buy one by looking at it is a tough choice.

I, use the Summit Ulitimate Viper ss, its really quiet and has the comfort of your best chair.

I never sat in a stand facing the tree, I'm sure there are some advantages to it, what would they be?

The Buckshot is the only climbing stand I use. It is one of the best and safest stands out there . I have Two and they make great hunting, scouting, and video stands!! Mark

BearHunter,

What I like about facing the tree, let's see. You can use the tree to steady your shot, it break's your outline (big plus), you can use it to break a cold wind or sun in your eye's, if the stand were to slip grab the tree instead of bailing. The stand I have has a back rest and side rail's, so you can lean back or forward, side to side and you don't fall out. It's a plus for those that tend to fall asleep in their stand's. I never have but know many that have a bad habit of doing it.
I'm staying with my old stand (love it), but am looking to get a couple more. The old stand I mentioned isn't made anymore, and I haven't seen any used one's for sale. I like to pre-scout, and set stand's in good spot's to be hunted according to wind and other factor's. Keep's you from carrying the stand in and out each time. Frank

Facing the tree

What if, the game comes from behind, it would seem that you would have to move around some which could hurt. Do you hunt with a bow with this set-up.

BearHunter,

Your point is valid, but who move's more if the game come's from behind? I simply make a SLOW easy turn and face said victom, you have to turn and look AROUND the tree. That said we both hunt, do we not? I set up where I am anticipating the game to come from, do they alway's co-operate? No, but for the vast majority of the time, I'm here and how I want to sit. No I've never bow hunted. Frank

I have a summit now and will probably stick with them from here on out.

They have great designs and a system that really grips the tree well. Check out their line up to figure out which one works best for your hunting style.

I use the "Grand Slam" climber by API outdoors. It works out better for facing the tree which I like also. Also its not bulky or heavy like some.
