What Was I Thinking...
Went to a gun show this morn. West Palm sucks with five day wait even on long guns but theres always stuff to be found if you dig hard enough... Well I got on an ammo jag...
Working the tables hard I was able to dig up a mountain of ammo that fit into the Deep Cheap program... I found a guy with loose 30-06 for a dime each and aired him out for 250 rounds for about what I pay for a box of regular hunting rounds. Lousy ass wolf .223 were there in an assortment of slug sizes... We can't use fmj for hunting here so I grabbed ten boxes (200 rounds) at $3 a box. 100 rounds of semi wadcutter .38 for $17, .380 for $16.50 and 45 for $26 ... Hell at those prices I doubled up on them and still I was far enough ahead of budget to get a couple clips for the mini 14, new holster for the 1911, and a box of some hot load 45+P 185HP.
It was all I could do to carry that load to the car... Getting home only some of it came out of the same car. The rest stayed behind while I went and grabbed my arsenal to go play at the range...
I started light doing fifty rounds each of the .38 and .380. Nice warm up.... I knocked the dust off the .223 by squeezing off a quick 100... Then rolled 100 bowling ball 45's down range... Gotta love that "Thump".
What I did next comes full circle to the title of this thread... I laid out 100 "BLAMMMM!!!"s off the '06. Gotta appreciate that round's ability to shake dust out of the rafters and blow clouds of burnt powder and lead dust off the floor.
There is something soooo theraputic about unleashing blams. Each round peeling back strees from surface and subsurface alike... Then there is something different about slinging that much high calliber energy in one sitting...
My elbow wont bend... My shoulder feels like I laid it in front of a semi. My whole arms have bumble bees and my hands are black from powder burns...
God... I do love a good blammin session...

Good stuff! I took a stroll down to my hunting lease this morning and can't wait to start dropping things!
Hope to get to the range sometime this week to knock some of that dust off too.

Women love me... fish fear me
I love the smell of gunpowder........my favorite is a 308, I have a friend....who is retired postal worker.....he dont do much for the postal worker image lol with the arsenal he has. Around Philly pa there are not too many rifle ranges around...if they are they max out at 100 yards....there are a few with 200 but thats it. After a few years of bugging him he took me to the gun club he belongs to, its an hour and 45 minute drive and I couldnt believe he drove that far just to shoot.....until I got there. Up until that day I had never shot at a target over 150 yards away.....this range had targets up to 500 meters
.
I showed up with my 30/30 brush gun.....and my .06.....he had a bolt action pistol chambered in .06 with a scope that we were shooting tight groups with at 200 meters....up until that moment it was one of the coolest things I have ever done with a gun while shooting for fun. This range has metal silhouettes of animals as well as boards to hang your paper targets.......I learned alot on that day,
1.....at 200 meters shooting a 170 grain 30/30 silver tip.....you need 3' of kentucky wind-age when sighted in for 100 yards
2. a 150 grain .06 drops like a rock after 200 meters
3. we shot I believe an m1 chambered in .308 at the silhouettes at 500 meters......with iron sights and were banging the gong
4. when he broke out his ruger .308 with a worked trigger and told me to be careful because its a hair trigger....he wasnt kidding....I think I looked at the trigger and the gun barked.
To put it in perspective 500 meters is a long way away.....it is very cool when you shoot at a range that you have to drive your truck to when yo change your targets.....you paint the silhouettes with white spray paint so you not only hear the hit....but you can see where you hit it through the spotting scope....now what I want to know is just what the f**k the guys were shooting that put a hole through a 3/4" thick silhouette from 500 meters away?

Not sure what '06 in 150 you were shootin but if I lay it on the top of the back at 400 I'll hit center mass or about 14"... Never put it to the test past that... Yesterday was indoors and short range. Really went for the 223 and 45 practice but got carried away...
Went fishing today and it hurt to put the riggers out or pull the lines down...

Friggin cruel! Thats what it is! Cheap and ammo don't go in the same sentence but these gun shows are screwing that up. Hunted in the mush this morn without so much as a track to look at. Swung by the show and loaded back up.
Off to the range and slid a hundred each 380, 38, 45, 223 and 30-06 back down range... What the hell is the matter with me? Its like drinkin. I knew that hangover was commin but did it any way. I lay out 500 blams and know full well I'm gonna pay for it later... Those military cheap rounds for the 06 are 220grain shoulder shattering earth shakers...
Gotta love it though. I was poppin good with the 223. Hell I was inch grouping off the shoulder. Along came a guy with an AK upstaging my noise... Then the next guy kicked it up another notch going to 308... Squeezed off that '06 and even through the muffs could hear him comment "oh shit!" each time I let one go...
