What do you feed your deer?

I feed mine Corn, but have started adding some high protien goat feed in with it. My buddy bought some sweet feed but I have heared that this is not good for the deer and could cause MAD COW disease. I have read that corn only has about 6% protein and deer need food with at least 16%.

I doubt that many of the 440 plants they know deer eat have 16% protein. If you just want to kill them or keep them around, corn works fine. If you are wanting to fatten them up or boost antler developement, go for the $$$ stuff like Record Rack or other specialized growth blends.

Good Stuff, I just caught the tail end of a tv show the other day and this was a topic of discussion. The cliff notes of the discussion basically was that feeding deer corn during the off season is actually not healthy for them. I can't tell you why. They also stated that a few states are starting to pass laws which will make feeding deer anything at all illegal. I think if you go to Univ. of Penns' website I believe they will have a lot more information on what you should feed them if anything at all. A lot of hunters around here feed them straight corn kernels which is bought at tractor supply or the likes.

pending the season 180 grain Remington or 2 blade rage or 250 grain pushed down the barrel...

In my area alot of corn, bean, and winter wheat fields so they have plenty to eat. If I am trying to get them to travel a certain way or visit a area consistantly I use a mineral/salt block and or some apples from the tree in the back yard. I have good luck buring the mineral block late summer to early fall and they will have the area dug up in a few weeks and keep coming back. Tree rats, coons, turkeys and other birds will wipe out 50 pounds a corn in a few days...

    From what they tell me..

baiting deer is illegal in the Commonwealth of Virginia. But I hear that in Maryland they like Apples, Sweet Potatoes, and Corn in a pile. I'd think they like a little diversity in their diet as well.
