My son Hunter is 10 years old & has blood in his eyes so I bought him a Remington model 770 243 caliber a few weeks
ago. I took him out to let him get used to shooting a Scoped Rifle after a few shots he was putting 4 in a 2 inch group at 100 yards which I thought was ok for a 10 year old. Saturday was opening day so we sat in a stand in the rain for 3 hours around 8:00 am a nice 6 point came into the shooting lane & stood broadside to us for about 15 seconds I gave him the go ahead to shoot it but it seems like the shooting rail was a little to high for him. We regrouped after that only to see a nice Bear & a few more Deer that was a little to far for him to take. I could not stand it any longer so we left school a little early yesterday to try it again. We arrived in Hyde county around 3:30 as we were approaching the stand a large Doe was in the lane we finally spooked her off trying to get in the stand. Around 4:30 we finally had our first encounter which was a 300 pound Bear that came feeding out in the lane. After what seemed like forever another Bear crossed about 200 yards from us that was between 450 & 550 pounds after another long spell I just had that funny feeling & looked behind me to see another 300 pounder at the base of the Tree Stand which was pretty cool for a 10 year old to watch as we were watching him I looked up to see the 6 pointer from Saturday walk out I gave Hunter a nudge to get his attention he brought the Rifle up to make an absolute perfect shot which dropped him in his tracks. I have been waiting for this day for 10 years but I am not sure who was more excited about it me or him. We tried it again for a couple hours this morning only to see a couple of small Bucks & a few Does. Sorry for the poor quality pics I left my camera on the boat & all I had was my phone.
been waiting on this report, AWESOME day to say the least. Congrats to both of you. Had to be a real thrill to see all those bears. Great shot Hunter! To be able to share that experience between Dad & son is the best it gets. Hope there are many more real soon.
