Friday afternoon BeagleMan and I went to the club and sat till dark. BeagleMan sat in the cutover, and I sat at the pea patch. BeagleMan and I both saw some does, but the bucks never showed.
Saturday morning we went back to the club, but this time we took the beagles with us. We had a much better day. First drive it took a little while for me to jump one, but when they got one rolling, the race was on. My pack ran a small buck around the club for about an hour or so before I could catch them. The second hunt I turned out in a nice spot, the beagles jumped coming out of the box. It was not long and I heard BeagleMan shoot. When I got back to the truck I saw BeagleMan loading the six point in the back, and catching the dogs as they came out the woods. All together there were five deer killed on that drive. We turned out two more times, and ran some does on both.
Saturday afternoon I sat the farm, and got to listen to a good race on the neighbors propeerty, but never heard them shoot. I saw a small buck, and one doe.
Saturday night I decided to turn the coon dogs loose. It did not take Casey long to strike in the peanut field. They treed in a sweet gum tree not far from the field. This was the first coon that my pup Gunny got in on. He treed well, and fought good to. He made light work of that bo coon.
Sunday morning Joey had the farm to himself. He sat BeagleMan's stand and watched a couple old does, and a few little ones. He said he could hear the bucks in the woods fighting, but they never came into the open where he could see them.
Sunday night I sat BeagleMans stand and watched the does again, and about dark the buck finally showed, but I did not have enough light to make the shot.
That is the same ground blind that the copperhead snake got into with me a few weeks back. He was a no show this time. I had a little something waiting on him this time, and he must have known it.
