Went out to my friends farm in loudoun on saturday and monday. Saturday started off perfect. Cold and crisp the way I like it when deer season starts. First thing in the morning a nice wide 8 point was chasing a doe around 150 yards from my stand. He finally chased her down the creek. Wasn't much movement for the next hour or so and a nice group of 4 medium does deceided to give me a shot. I took the shot and it felt like a good shot. waited around 15 minutes and got out of the stand.SHIT! no sign-no hair-combed the area And I finally realize I missed! I shoot iron sights only for muzzleloader. I had spent plenty of time getting dialed in and couldn't figure out what the problem was. Packed it up then and there and went and cleaned the gun. The gun was filthy and I thought it had been cleaned. This is the first time I have missed with my muzzleloader.Had lunch with my friends on the farm and after lunch went out and set up a target and took a couple shots. All was well, the gun still patterned great. So I went out and hunted the afternoon. Tried to make a quick stalk and spooked a few does. Went to get in m stand and the nice 8 was chasing on the creek bottom again. Tried to call him in but nothing doing. As soon as he went out of sight I got up in my stand. Finally had a nice doe come straight in. Took a frontal shot and dropped her in her tracks. Had a hell of a time gutting her in the dark holding the flashlight and cutting. She was a big doe. Hunted monday and was done by 6:40. Had a big bodied 6 come to the exact same spot where I missed the doe and made a perfect shot. Ran about 30 yards and collapsed. Was out of there by 9:00. Hope everyone else did well.
Heck yeah. Missing sucks, but I'd say you got even!!
I was stringing decoys in the basement today and saw something through the slider. Had a big bodied 6-pt 10 yards from the house. I wish my bow was in the room with me. He let me walk out the door and get 30 yds before he pranced away. Thick neck and black tarsals....lookin for some ladies!!
