    Angry Ugggggggg...

Deep Deckand, his cousin Matt and I slid into the kill zone under the cover of crisp cool darkness... I had scaled back to some very soft topsiders and the entry was silent. DD in a tree up high. I had a ground spot mid level with good cover from a double ok. Matt had his tree stand set down below with good funnels both left and right.
Still too dark to shoot I could hear some moving down near Matt... I heard the grunt but no shot. I focused that direction but the deer had moved to my right then behind. I was blended well with the tree and felt good about my cover. Wind if any was on my shoulder blowing up hill so I redirected my attention below.
Suddenl I hear snorting from behind me ... I had the tree blocking any view fof me from that direction. The wind wasn't right for him to nail my scent. The little bugger was deep in the brush someplace I couldn't see, snortin and stompin and jusy goin nuts. It had me confused and blaming my self for must have done something wrong.
Then I see a shape up on the ridge. Some univited hunter was just standing up there. I could see him clear so he had to be what blew that deer (which would have been one of the ones mMatt grunted).
I watched the stranger move back off and turned toward where that one who blew me had been, thinking that the stranger moving across might push him back at me...
This went on for about ten minutes when I heard something behind me back down the hill. SHIT! On had made it past DD (he couldn't get the shot) and had crawlewd right up my scupper. Close enough to count her eyelashes the little girl had me busted. I considered doing a quick spin, draw and shoot on the fly but remembered Matt was below me.
She jumped and took a couple bounces then stopped to look at me again. As I had froze up, she lost that panic and went back to a slow walk and even picked at acorns along the way. I saw her disappear to below Matts stand, heard him bleat, heard the shot, heard the crash and even heard the kick - kick of a done deer...
We waited a good half hour before moving around. We saw nothing more so we decided to go retrieve the girl. All three of us converged where we heard the crash and burn...Matt picked up his pass through arrow. Some bubbles, some liver and even a hint of gut covered the shaft end to end... We could see where it had laid down, a puddle of blood and even some spurted up high on a tree but no deer... Must not have been as dead as we thought... So it will be a go back in a while with Matts tracking dog to see if we can't finish this right and salvage a good hunt out of the cluster. Hope we get it before the stranger does...

I have hunted all my life .. up until I got married that is..(he hated the thought of taking me hunting I guess) ... So now I have the freedom to get back into the swing of it.. I am looking forward to one day hunting at this exotic animal ranch down here in South Texas.. they have zebras... cool! they also have animals that I have never seen before in my life and a really nice hunting lodge.

    Talk about a tough one!

That little son of a ***** should have been dead on impact this morning but I guess nobody told him that. We decided to go it without the dog and pick up where we left off this morning. The blood trail was good but through some thick stuff. DD did the belly crawl and the spike from hell didn't want to cooperate. One foot at a time 40 yards seems like forever. A hundred yards in it tried to move... Team Deep rose to the occasion and finally brought the game to a successful conclusion...
So as the young buck was processed in Matts state of the art deer death garage tonight there was the satisfaction that this round didn't result in another gotaway... Despite a rough start to the day the finish was a good one...

It's good that you guys found him.. I always hate the thought of good meat going bad when one is shot and not found.

We've lost an awful lot of deer in that piece of woods over the years. A bad hit in this place almost always results in one that runs to no trespassing country and is lost. Even good hits wind up that way once in a while...This one stayed in bounds but the one the other day involved a late night tiptoe in to retieve...
