    Two more monster whitetails

I got these in an email so take them for what they're worth

Here's the story behind the first one

    Williams Buck

    Deer Hunters:

Here are some early photos of a great deer taken during the youth hunt this year. This buck was shot at a property only eight miles from where I hunt on my brother-in-law's property in Grant County. We saw a buck with 16 inch tines two years ago. It could have been him or a relative. Anyway, Grant County produces some great bucks every year. This buck green scores 203 Typical, NET, not gross. If so, this would place this buck in the top three typicals all time in Wisconsin, and that includes the great Jordan Buck at 207 that was world record for decades. These pictures were taken in front of the Cabela's store in Prairie du Chien. The hunter shown in the picture a 15 year old Williams boy from Millville, WI. The deer was shot between Millville and Woodman. The buck was shot with a rifle during the youth hunt in early October.
    This
deer has 16 inch tines. The manager at Cabelas offered him $25,000 on the spot the day the pictures were taken. Cabela's offer included making a replica set of antlers that look identical to the originals and the hunter would be able to keep the cape. The boy and his father turned down that offer. The manager then called the Cabelas headquarters in Nebraska and immediately got permission to offer the boy $61,000 for the rack. He still said no. Writers and photographers from various deer magazines descended on Wisconsin to see the deer so I'm sure you will see more about this buck in the upcoming days.

Monster is an understatement for those deer! Holy Cow. My question though: Why in the hell would you not let someone make a replica of the horns for that much money? That would simply give your trophy more publicity..I have a hard time believing they would turn down that much money or that Cabela's would even offer it.

Wow…nature is so amazing. 1st buck looks fairly symmetrical, classic typical…HUGE…but typical, but the 2nd what a FREAK!!! I can’t wait to see some additional photos because it would appear there is some damage to the right side on the non-typical.

They way I read it, Cabela's was going to make the replica for the hunter and Cabela's would keep the original.

Not only will they offer a lot of money to a particular animal but I saw a show where Cabelas was paying some tv personality a bunch of money as he set out in a quest to shoot every big game animal in the world or something like that. I believe they all had to be B&C qualifiable animals! Lifes tough.

If it indeed becomes a world record...61k is just a drop in the bucket. Cabela's is as much a tourist attraction as it is retailer...having "bragging rights" at their stores would only increase traffic. That deer would travel around to each and every store to make "appearances", hundreds if not thousands of perspective customers would file in, and the hardest thing for any retailer/business is to get traffic into the store and this is easy money. Personally, I think it's a smart move...I don't see that deer losing value anytime soon.
