    twisted antlers

i was wondering if any of you know what causes a deer's G2's to take on a little twist. i have killed two that have that trait. and took a picture of what could have been the great grandfather of my 14 pt. Take a look.

the taxidermist i took the 14 pt to, said he had only seen that in one other deer. and now have two.

post up pictures if you have killed one with twisted G2s.

here are the close ups of the G2 of the 14 Pt. Ben Bischoff of Buckhorn Taxidermy mounted it and he is the one that said he had only seen one other deer with twisted points. he is a year or two younger than me. his father, Julius Bischoff started Buckhorn in the late 60's. so Ben has seen a lot of antlers in his life. so I am pretty sure it is rare.

it is just freaky that i killed two with that trait.

    Very intersting

The Buck I shot in November has a twisted G2. My computer here at work doesn't like the new format so I can't post the pic , but here is the link to the thread . You can see the twisted tine in the last pic on his right side.

    Interesting

    Sweet November!

From my resources the reason is a typical antlered bucks begin to pick up abnormal antler characteristics such as kickers and beauty points about the burr as they get older. When they get really old, in their teens, their antlers typically look like small twisted bonsai trees. I believe you said it in your first post, the deer you shot were really old and this plays a toll on the antler characteristics. Maybe these deer were on AARP, did they walk with a cane or have a stroller? You have knack for finding those ole ones.
