It turns out the video wasn't totally lost
I was trying to render a section of my Utah hunt the other day and my computer shut down from overheating. Turns out I got the most important part of the footage to work.
Box had a much better version of this posted at one time, but here's the best I can do right now. I think it's time to invest in a desktop that can handle some video.

I use an older XP machine for videos. I use a sony program that my DVD cam required for editing and it freezes all of the time.
I have two Apple desktops in my office that I'm going to check the stats on to see what kind of RAM they have. My everyday laptop is a Macbook that I want to keep a standalone for just everyday work. I may go with Final Cut Express for my editing instead of Pinacle. But we'll see. I have a lot to learn.
I have the video from Utah on a DVD that Marty burned for me so it's still here, but a few weeks back I was rendering a longer version of it, and only what is posted above. I was happy that it was the meat and potatoes of the footage and I didn't have to try and melt the computer again.
Gonna see what the budget can handle and make some moves very soon.
Keep an eye out for my elk hunt.
