Turkey Opener 2010

#1 in the books for SHUNT. Came to his side of the setup this morning. Frost on the ground with a hot gobbling bird. Did not want to come to us so we decided to go to him once we heard him turn when he hit the ground. Nice bird, did not have a scale but I would say 18-19 lbs. 10 1/2" Beard and nice hooks that straight measured at a little over 1 1/8". Maybe a tad longer if you taped the whole length (kind of like going over the caudal fin of a BFT for the correct measurement.) it would probably give you 1 1/4" hooks.

Scouting Tues and Wednesday then hunting again Thurs, Friday and Saturday next week.

Maybe SHUNT will post a picture when he gets some time this week or maybe even later today.

Enjoyed it brother. Glad you kept your head about you with the way this piece of property played out this season.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Scott made a great shot on the bird. It only showed its head from the waddle up to the snood.

Plans changed and I am scouting tomorrow through Wed then hunting Thurs-Sat. Hopefully we can manage another bird later this coming week.

Long day today. Need some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ's

Multiple Bogies came in on the attack at flydown time. Had 3 (2 gobblers and a jake) coming to us but it was not to be. Not sure if it was a hen or the terrain and the backwater pools that could have been the issue.Oh well, on to setup #2

We (SHUNT and myself) went to another spot where I had heard one the previous morning. SHUNT did some cut and run work and I put #1 for this season on the ground.

10 1/8" beard, At least a 20 lb bird. Had 1" sharp cones. Probably a 2 year old bird. Proud to have him after a long day!

The past 2 days SHUNT and I have seen some phenomenal turkey action. We have seen heard and worked a few birds on both days. However, we were not able to connect with any gobblers Friday and Saturday.

I enjoyed hunting with you so far this season Brother. We still have a few weeks to tag out. Lets re group and try again middle to end of next week.

Time to catch up on some rest and tie some lures and hang some moulding
