    TREE STAND THIEF

Just got back from our Illinois turkey hunt where I have leased this farm for 7 years. Had a great hunt and filled all tags.

We also found 3 of my tree stands had been stolen. I have been building my own stands for many years and I have really tweaked my design. It take me about 8-10 hours to build one and cost about $75.00 for materials.

I can't believe some dirt bag piece of crap stole 3 of them. Why would someone would steal another guys stands.

I had to go out and buy $200.00 worth of chain and locks to help save my deer stands.

Any suggestion on how it catch this idiot ??

Since you cant be there all the time, motion sensitive video might be the only way to see the culprit. You might get a lood at him. May not be cost effective but could give you a good feeling if you can identify him.

Aside from infrared trail cams(which can be stolen too), there's not much you can do.

I've lost my share of stands over the years and I think I might try out these puppies soon.

They're a little pricey themselves, but would make the thief think twice next time!

    lost several

what's really bad is when you are 99.99% sure who took it, but can't prove it, now that will get under your skin like it did when he took mine and Kay's a couple years ago. Or like the one where they busted my camper window out at the motel and took that one. I wanted to rent a room with an outside view and "bait him" back. I really think I would have no problem pulling the trigger....

    Probably not a dog hunter...

We all know they are too lazy to climb in a tree stand

If you trap them they can sue you in certain places. A more cost effective option is how I deal with the tresspassers on 4 wheelers just racing around my logging roads and raising hell. Find where he is getting around your gate or through your fence and take afew 1by 6's about a foot and a half long, drive 6" nails(ring shank is my favorite ) all over it and anchor it in his ruts or projected walking route with 10" spikes(those giant nails) and cover with leaves or pine straw. It will get his attention whether he walks or drives over it.

I heard about a guy who used to weld up some "landmines"

They were essentially sea urchin looking things made of scrap steel. It stopped the problems he was having with people running his section of powerline.

The power company didn't find it very amusing when they found one
