No one really knows if the flash affects them or not. I've seen pics of them jumping from the flash, but I don't think they're that smart.

Here are pics taken with two $100 dollar cameras. The B&W one is taken with an infrared flash that has trouble when it is dusk or dawn it should be in color, but for $100 it works.

The pair of bucks stuck around for 5+ min and had quite a few pics taken.

The downside of the flash is when a neighbor sees it and decides they want to take it home with them. The infrared's use LED's that shine red on the target.

SD card slots are a plus. You can pull the cards instead of removing the cameras. I checked my pics this morning and didn't have to mess with the camera placement or stink the area up too bad.

I have a Moultrie cheapo that's 3 years old. and a Stealth Cam cheapo IR

In my opinion, I think it just depends on the deer. I think the does could care less about the flash. I've got 100's of pictures of the does just standing there forever and not giving a damn about the flash. I only got that 10 pointer on camera 2 nights (3 times 1 night, and once a second night where he's jumping from the flash). I have a buddy that swears that the flash will spook them. He does have that same deer on camera in a different location, but only once. I think I've got the Moultrie 3.1 but I'm not positive, got it off eBay for pretty cheap compared to new. I don't think you need one with a lot of megapixels unless you plan on getting them developed, even mine is probably too many, they're just scouting cameras.

as far as flash, I have seen the camera take many flash photo's as I have one set up within site of my house. I have yet to see one spook from the flash. We set ours to only take 1 pic every five minutes.
