Headed out to the Pocomoke Sound at ODARKEARLY with Lil Red. Cold...Real Cold.
Set up nice spread..no wind...no ducks...seven forty five we packed it in. Did have some fun working geese with my new call...If the season were in they would have paid us no mind, but as it was we toyed with them for ten or so minutes.
Picked up a few oysters from a local waterman on the way in.
Steamed them up for lunch prior to heading out the ground blind next to the bedding area for the pm deer hunt.
I've gotten rather personal with this particular deer. I know more about his lifestyle than I do about most of my friends. I know where he eats. I know where he sleeps.. I know where he rests during the midday hours. I've got a good idea which does he's bred and yet he finds a way to kick my ass each time I go after him.
Today was no different. Settled in just after three fifteen. At 4:47 I hear him get up from the bedding area. At 4:54 the first doe steps int the shooting lane. Let her pass. It's getting hard to see. Crank scope down. 4:59 the 8 point follows. Let him walk. He's young. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy should be coming soon. 5:11 he could have flipped me the bird as he strolled by at 120 yards, I certainly couldn't see him clearly enough through the scope to take a responsible shot at this point.
Ok. I still had options. Slid out of the back of the blind and double timed it out of the woodsl across the pasture trying to beat him to a five acre field behind a chicken house. He failed to appear.
This is getting personal.
