i forgot to say we thought so much of our dog we named the boat after him "NAUTI DOG"

We are fourtunate enough to have both offshore and inshore duck dogs.
If you are interested in a Chessy or a Boykin let me know, I know great breaders of both.
Gypsy is my Dad's 3 year old female Chesapeake from Mr. Wescotts kennel in Camden County, NC My Father in law has her brother (same parents from a different litter) and both are great, Mr. Wescott had been working on his line of big brown dogs for 40 years and they are the most social hard driving chessies I have seen. Gypsy will go to the end of the earth in the big water, and is flat out mad at a goose (one bit a chunk out of her ear when she was 9mos old) She is not smooth of fancy at her retreiving but she is an excellent hunter's meat dog and is impervious to weather conditions.
Maybelle is my 1.5 year old Boykin from Mr.Kennamere's kennel from Edgefield, SC. I have spent many hours training Maybelle, and it has been very rewarding, she is nearly perfectly fine tuned and is a pleasure to be my swamp / dove huntin buddy. She has fetched a big goose in the water, but could not drag it out of the water, she is 16" high at the shoulder and 28 pounds, and fits nicely in my Poke Boat. She is the perfect small water retreiving machine.
We plan on breeding maybelle, if her hips and eyes check out and we can find a boyfriend with the same.
Her they are sitting in the Foyer waiting for me to take them outside and throw something.

Nauti and Capt Jay,
I would defiantly like to get info on the breeders you used.
I think the chessy is the direction I am heading.
Glenn has suggested a female, anyone elses thoughts on this?

Female.
Much easier to keep a ***** in check. With a chessie they'll be more headstrong than others, but a working dog aims to please and just like a human, a little scratch there, and a few sweet words, you 'll get just what you want.
HA....if it were only that simple!

hey dave how did yall make out sat?

try this link for Joe Quinn. His wife is the breeder and he is the trainer. He is a real good guy. He is on the eastern shore near Wye Mill MD. Our male was quite head strong until i sent him to Joe. He total changed the "nauti dog" into a respectable part of the family........somtimes.....lol
We thought so much of him we bought one of his dogs. If you get in touch with him tell him Todd and Tracy Mayer sent you. Let us know what you think of his dogs. its worth the drive just to meet the man.

forgot to leave the link.
In my experience, the male wakes up every day and says "What can I do for you today boss"
The female wakes up every day and says "What are you going to do for me today?"
Just my experiences, but the males attempt to please much more than females. Females I've had seem smarter, in fact, a little too smart. The flipside is the males can be hard-headed as hell in training, but when they finally grasp something, it's entrenched.

i agree with you nc. our male c.b.r. (boomer) is a hard working dog. he this there to please in the field. (delta) the female is a spoiled brat and would like her breakfast served to her in bed. she rules him. on the flip side boomer (the male) needs to be working or doing somthing all the time ische gets him into trouble in the house.
the males are the best looking but can be head strong and of course if he is in the house you have to deal with the leg lifting.
out of all the dogs i have owned i found if you are not going to breed them.........get them sniped a.s.a.p.
Boomer was out of control until we took them from him. it took about 6 months after to see a diffrence.
c.b.r are great dogs but they are not the breed for everyone.
Amen...still waiting for my male lab to chill a little. Don't want to take the fire out him, but I'm getting tired of patching the chain link fence he chews through when the female is in heat! It's only been since Easter so hopefully he'll mellow a little soon...the leg lifting has pretty well stopped though.out of all the dogs i have owned i found if you are not going to breed them.........get them sniped a.s.a.p.
