Since the birds are migratory and only here for the winter I don't think it is in our best interest to increase the pressure on them for a second day of the weekend.
I'm talking MD....we have a large number of hunters in a small state. Yes there are plenty of marshes, fields, and the Bay, but we also have Delaware folks, Pa, Va....and the other folks that come and visit our many guides to hunt what was once the "Canada Goose Capital of the World". Not to mention the increasingly popular sea duck destination. Two days in a row on a weekend with a large number of hunters in the field will only educate the ducks that much faster. It's already obvious enough what all the banging does to the attitudes of the birds. Have I hunted Sunday's elsewhere...Heck yeah....would I hunt them here....YES....but I don't think it's a good idea. Our MD season is highly dependent upon weather up north, and new birds coming to the area. Not only would I not want our calendar season shortened, I don't want the same old birds here getting more pressure than they already do. Both for the birds sake, and the quality of the hunt. These recent warm years have basically been nothing but shooting/shooting at the same old birds day after day. The argument of close a few other days of the week is total BS....you'd have to close the whole damn week to cancel out the the amount of hunters afield on Saturday...AND Sunday if we allowed it. I think we have better control over what happens with our resident game so I fully support hunting them....ESPECIALLY ON PRIVATE LAND....as far as I'm concerned if I own land and there's a deer/turkey/rabbit/squirell.....etc. on it....It's mine until it leaves that land.....Ducks and geese are different...they're only visiting. enough damn typing.....come hunting with me....I'll tell you how I feel. Ask BOX....I brought up politics on the way over the mountain and could have talked until his flight landed. -D
