Summertime Pleasure Hunt
I could't stand it. With the sweet corn nearing ready I have a lot of coons. Decided this evening to do a little pleasure hunt with Cassie and Hootie, Just to keep them in shape. Did not carry a gun. I figured that it would end on a tree at the head of the pond. Boy I didn't expect what happpened. I backed up right between the field and the pond. Hottie was the first to strike. I knew she must be looking at him for her to strike first. The dogs struck on the edge of the pond and strait into the sweet corn they went. they pursued that coon for 75 yards. The dogs were absoutly going wild. I called Hootie and Cassie treed .I knew I needed to get there quick. When I got into the field where they were they had caught a big bo coon. This was Hootie's first time to strike and Tree first. They made lite work of the big bo coon. We made our way back to the truck, Cassie toting the coon in her mouth. We looked the coon over and he looked like he was healthy. I think the dogs just suprised him in the edge of the water, and flat ran him down in the field. I know my two girls will sleep good tonight. Should't hear a sound from the kennels. I think my Hootie will make a fine dog. Cassie, even though she is old, has many hunts left in her.
Tree my dog.

Hoottie's Catch
He looked pretty healthy. Neighbors are gonna have him BBQ'd for the fourth. He was still alive when I got to the "Tree" and he had plenty of fight in him. Glad I had the Mag Light with me. This is not the first one I have "caught". It was one good fight. That pup is awul fast, and there are no trees inthe field. 65 acre field (5 acres sweet corn), big trees were in the other direction Pond on the other side, and with all that sweet corn serving as a distraction, I guess they jusrt ran him down. I figured that they were on my moms cat till I got to them. He was fat and I think he was ok. One more toothpick for the collection!

Yeah. I do enjoy coon hunting. Try to go several nites a week during the kill season. Don't care for it so much while it is hot. I have to woory to much about snakes and gators, but I just could not resist turning out in the sweet corn patch. There were so good sign there. I am planning to go back later this week or this weekend before we finish breaking the corn and see what happens. I kinda hope that they will be able to tree this time in a TREE at the head of the pond. Casey and Hootie did remain quiet in the kennels all night and the next day. Casey seemed a little sore when she got up, BUT Hootie she is ready to go back...

COOL CHAPTERS 2 AND 3 HERE............
I DO ADMIRE YOUR PASSION....QUESTION: WHEN YOU SAY SWEET CORN.....I ASSUME YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE "BRAND NAME " OF THE CORN...... OUR LOCAL FARMS WHCIH PROVIDE MY AREA WITH "SWEET CORN" SOMEHOW RECEIVED A "BAD BATCH" OF SEEDS AND SADLY THE "SWEET CORN" FAILED THIS YEAR IN CARTERET COUNTY ......WE STILL HAVE SERENDIPITY TO ENJOY MAKE SURE TO REST THAT DOG UP ....CAUSE ONE COON ON THE GRILL MAY NOT BE ENOUGH SURE WOULD LIKE SOME PICS OF THE BBQ'D JULY 4TH MEAL.... ![]()

Silver Queen
Silver Queen is the variety planted. It could have used more water, but we were able to water from the pond some. I have seen lots of fields dried up with no chance. It is unfortunate when someone gets bad seed, time and money invested in bad seed is a shame.
We need rain...
