    The suburban deer saga continues

Finished eviciting a deadbeat tenant and the boss man started asking about shooting my bow. He wanted to hit the woods today and show me how it's done.

Now mind you my Dad hasn't shot a bow since he was playing cowboys and indians in the 50's. I told him that if he could hit the vitals on 3 shots in a row from various angles and distances that I'd let him have the bow in the woods.

Well it took about 5 sec. in the backyard to guarantee I would be the shooter last night. I recall some comment like.....no wonder you miss and shit....look at this fag bow....what's all this fancy shit on it???

I answered with a and put 3 arrows in the heart from 30 yds.

Anyway. After getting some clothes out for him and telling him he can't chew gum, smoke cigars, fart, sneeze, cough, blow his nose.....etc....we were off to the woods.

I put him in the strap on stand that's over the corn, and I climbed the same tree I have been for the last few hunts. WOW....he even put a face mask on.

My dad is one deadly SOB with a gun, but I wouldn't call him stealthy. Shit at 6'3" 250lbs and 58 he shouldn't have to be stealthy.

So we both get in our stands and with a few thumbs up the hunt begins.

It's 4:30 and the pool neighbor is cutting the lawn. No deer to be seen. It doesn't look like they've messed with the corn since saturday either.

the neighbor wraps up by 5:15 and the first two deer come accross the yard to the left and end up poking around just out of the woods. Something sends them back to the woods in a hurry. At least it wasn't us.

It's 5:45 and I just know some deer will be coming into sight. It's just a matter of when.

6:00 I hear a psstt from my right. Dad points behind me and to the left. What's this??? There's a doe coming through the yards and headed down the draw to my left. She's needs to make a slight right to pass within range. I pick up my bow, clip my release. Wait wait wait.....she's almost at the perfect spot. she'll be 27ish yds and broadside. Her head's behind a stump....draw....hold....concentrate.....breath.....THWACK....The arrow hits just forward of the diaphragm....a tad far back....she bolts in a hampered run and stops 50 yds away. She stands from 5 min before very slowly walking away. DAMN...looks like I didn't get a lung...Dad is watching her through binos and can't see blood coming out of her nose or the hole.

6:02...not too late we'll get her.

Well 6:30 and we're still waiting it out, of course I knocked another arrow. Just in case.

It's a little darker now, but the sun isn't down yet. 7 does start their way through the yard to the left and make it to the pool yard in a hurry. They start feeding and I start hearing walnuts crash all around them.

Wait....I don't see tree rats dropping the bombs....what is that???

Good ole suburbs....the neighbor is hitting golf balls a the damn deer.....shit.....or....Hell yeah....here they come.

6 break away to the opposite side of the draw and stop 75 yds away. the 7th...Mr. button buck stops 15 yds away from the stand and gives a nice shot. I kept my promise and let him walk. Dad didn't like that....he was picturing that little sucker on the BBQ.

he wandered down to the corn and started munching. slowly but surely the other 6 came and joined him.

Perfect...7 deer within 20 yds. there's leaves between me and the whole herd, but that's a good thing...Cover. One feeds away from the group and gives the an opening. I draw....shit there's a branch I didn't see before.....wait wait wait....30 seconds and it's time to shoot or let down.

There's the shot....broadside 20 yds.....THWACK!!! This shot is a good bit steeper and had to have gotten a lung.

The whole group heads about 75 yds away and continues feeding. Damn bow hunting is nice. One of them has a hole in her side and they don't give two shits. The hit deer heads away slowly out of sight with some wobble to her walk, the other 6 come right back. 4 head to the yards and two come up to investigate the scene.

While her nose is on the arrow from the deer before......MISS....I rushed the shot. It was a little too dark to shoot anyway. The pair heads away and hangs around at about 50 yds....They're not sure what the next step should be.

A small buck jumps the fence to the right and does a snort wheeze and pushes the two does away. He follows.

Enough action for one night.....time to get tracking.

still don't know why I didn't give dad the vid cam....next time.

Gotta get to work....more to come.

Hell there's nothing wrong with the neighbors. The guys who's letting me hunt said not to bother with them or worry about them. The deer really don't seem to care. They hate the deer and want them gone and there's no use in me talking to them about hunting or retrieving deer since I'll never have to go on their property. The other guy w/ the gazebo in the woods is down with the idea....it's all good.

First shot was a little back as I said, but this mornining the deer was found about 100 yds from where I stuck it.

Second deer got a little slice out of the lung, decent liver hit....is there such a thing?.....and some stomach. Too bad the stomach plugged the hole and it left NO TRAIL. Found her fully submerged in the creek this morning with the ass and all around the arrow hole eaten. ....damn it. Don't think I coulda have played it any different. Gotta start shooting bigger deer. These year old suckers have small boiler rooms.

Either way I have some straps and quarters in the freezer and will be warming up the grill this weekend with some wood duck breasts and backstraps....well, no guaranteed woodies yet.

Glad you all like the stories....they'll continue till I hear stop.

My next mission is a BOX style spine wacking.

Didn't have a tarp with me and hopped out on the interstate in prime rush hour. I bet the liberal yuppies loved the tounge sticking out.
