    strike one, strike two....

I decided to try to take one of our regulars, only he had the last laugh. At 31 yards, bow shooting a little over 300 fps, this buck clearly "ducks the string" as it is called in archery. At the sound of the bow, both front legs go out 90 degrees to his body which drops his chest in a mili-secound. The arrow passes just over his back. From where I was aiming, low on the chest or heart area, this buck dropped at least 10" in less time than it takes to blink your eye. If that wasn't enough, he came back 20 minutes later and did a repeat performance at 25 yards. Again, no animal was harmed. Unfortunately, he had just walked out of the camera frame on strike 2. I don't have fancy editing software for slow motion, but was able to pull out some stills from the video. Deer are amazing creatures.

the arrow has left the bow, deer has not moved

arrow is 3/4 the way to him and his mussles have tensed

with the arrow at about 10 ft from him, his legs start out and his body starts to drop

with the arrow 5 ft away, legs continue out lowering chest

his chest goes nearly to the ground as the arrow passes over

Watching the video it looks like the shot was just high. If the arrow had started out in the low vital area where it should have that deer would be yours. Awsome pictures though.

Awesome sequence of pictures but tough luck on the deer.

What is the camera on? It doesn't look like you're that high up.

I agree with birdhunter. At 30 yds. and a bow cranked up to 300fps. You shoulda "spined him" at least.

That was great to see it in slow motion like that. If I could do tht for all the misses I have, it would be to much film..
