Spring Black Bear- New Brunswick, Canada

Hey guys, wanted to let you know about the spring black bear that I go after in New Brunswick, Canada. I always used to go up there for woodcock and salmon on the miramichi for a few seasons, but last year I got into black bear. My guide put out a bunch of top notch baits and had some great bear coming to the baits. I took a nice 300lbs spring bear and was happy with that even though we saw bigger ones in trail cam photos. There are smaller ones in the area (obviously) but it has been somewhat of an untouched area for a long time so a lot of big ones were in the area. I'm not the guide nor do I have any affiliation with his services, I just like the guy and what he has done for me so I thought I'd publicize him a bit and try and help out a good guy in tough times. I think he's having a "fire" sale for the last few spots he has open and I believe they're $700 a person. He's got a great cabin for the hunters and it's just a great area to be in. I've hunted with a lot of guides and outfitters in many areas across the country, and I love everything this guy does, can't say enough for him. If anyone has any questions, feel free to give me a call or write me an email, the info is in my signature. Good luck with everyone's seasons. -Marc

    Done Alot Of Bear Huntin',

Here around home in Eastern NC, of course baiting is illegal. The spring season sound's like fun, but how are the bug's??? I guess truth be known that's why I never took up bow hinting. The time of year bow season come's in here the mosquito's will have you enemic before you can get out of the wood's. Handgunning is my preferrence for bear. Frank

the bugs can get pretty bad from what I hear. I typically go anywhere from the 1st-3rd week in may. by june there are a million bears out, but the hides have all been rubbed and the bugs are in full force x2! The first week in may could be a tad cold for all the bears every now and then, 2nd week is always a safe bet, 3rd week is even better for temperatures, but if the bear have been out for a few weeks then their hides may have started to rub. I have no interest in shooting a hairless bear nor dealing with bugs. Past few trips I haven't dealt with any bugs, but i think i've been lucky. I play the weather and when the right bears r hitting the baits I go up, it can be tough playing the weather up there.

I will do that for sure. There's actually a film crew going up to film a hunt (hopefully mine) and it's going to get on the outdoor channel, so hopefully we'll have pics and video!

YOUR RIGHT, THEY DO MAKE A LOUD CLICKING NOISE. THEY ARE WORTH THE HASSLE FOR SURE. TWO WAYS TO DO IT, IF, THE OUTFITTER IS TAKING YOU IN TO THE BAIT SITE ON THE BIKE AND THEN BAITS WHILE YOUR THERE, JUST START THE CLICKING THEN WHEN THERE IS ALOT OF NOISE GOING ON, IF, THIS ISN'T THE CASE THEN BUY THE HOLSTER THEY SELL FOR IT AND START IT UP BEFORE YOU GET THERE AND PLACE IT IN THE HOLSTER AND WEAR IT ON YOUR BELT OR ATTACH IT TO YOUR DAY PACK AND YOUR SET WHEN YOU GET THERE.

A holster huh? sounds like that may solve the problem. we go into the baits on foot and try and be as quiet as possible, which is y i said no to the clicking! I'll check this holster out. thanks for the tip!
