Spreading the joy of hunting
I took my daughter hunting tonite for her first time. She is six years old and out of the blue a few weeks ago she asked me if she could go hunting with me. Of course I got excited and said yes. We were supposed to go the last day of the November shotgun season, but she ended up in the hospital with strep throat. It is now doe season w/ a shotgun so we set it up so she could go. It is tough scheduling something like this since she is in school. Another roadblock is that I only get her specific days. To make a long story short, we got into the ground blind at about 2:30. We sat there all night without a single deer! She enjoyed herself anyway and now wants to continue going. She asked me to teach her to shoot, and can't wait to show off a picture of herself with her first deer. I wish we could have seen one tonite, but that is out of my control. Here is a picture of her in the blind. Lets hear some stories of how you got introduced, or when you introduced someone else to the sport.

Too cool--- way to keep her being daddy's little girl. How's Lucy doing?

more fun to come
I believe that if it comes to easy for young hunters they loose interest faster. I know I had to go with Dad several times before I got to see a deer. I had to be 12 before I was allowed to deer hunt. I wanted to go bad and now 40 years later still love and cherish the oppertunity to get to deer hunt. Hopefully your daughter will enjoy the time spent with Dad, deer or no deer.

Well, we tried again tonite but still no luck. I must have done something to make the whitetail gods angry. Maybe I need to pitch a quarter into the woods next time!

keep on
I had to take my wife about ten times before we seen a deer. Then it was a windy 14 degree morning, she wasn't hunting, just going with me climbing beside me and watching. She saw a deer come with 20 yds of me, stop in front of me, then move off. I never saw it. I must have been looking over it. She whispered from 10 yds away, "did you not see that deer"? Nope. Keep taking her as long as she wants to go, it will happen.
