hunting and complaining
I want to end on a positive note so I will get my complaining over first. For the guys that hunt public land and use flagging tape, cut up vest, orange parrachute cord, water bottles and other trash to mark your trail in the woods, GET a COMPASS! The public land we have been hunting the last few weeks looks like there has been an all hands surveyors convention there. If you must use foreign material to get in and out of the woods, take it down as you leave. You are ruining the exprience for a lot of folks. I walked one hog trail this weekend that was marked with 3 different color markings. The trail was like a paved side walk, but 3 different poeple felt it needed marking anyway. See how many PINK ribbons you can see in the picture, several didn't show up because they were slightly behind something:
if you need THIS to know when to leave the road, you need to stay on the road:
OK I'm through complaining. We had a decent hunt. Hogs were hard to find but we did see a few on Saturday. High water made it difficult to get where I wanted to go. We had been doing well with just knee high boots and did not bring our hippers. We improvised and used some trash bags to wade one spot that was thigh deep. She didn't get the pic till I was almost across but you get the idea.
The first group we saw, maybe 8 or so, got lucky when the 35 MPH wind swirlled and gave us away. The next group wasn't so lucky. I watched my wife stalk to within 18 yds of this nice sow, and then put an arrow through the boiler room.
