    some of both

    hunting and complaining

I want to end on a positive note so I will get my complaining over first. For the guys that hunt public land and use flagging tape, cut up vest, orange parrachute cord, water bottles and other trash to mark your trail in the woods, GET a COMPASS! The public land we have been hunting the last few weeks looks like there has been an all hands surveyors convention there. If you must use foreign material to get in and out of the woods, take it down as you leave. You are ruining the exprience for a lot of folks. I walked one hog trail this weekend that was marked with 3 different color markings. The trail was like a paved side walk, but 3 different poeple felt it needed marking anyway. See how many PINK ribbons you can see in the picture, several didn't show up because they were slightly behind something:

if you need THIS to know when to leave the road, you need to stay on the road:

OK I'm through complaining. We had a decent hunt. Hogs were hard to find but we did see a few on Saturday. High water made it difficult to get where I wanted to go. We had been doing well with just knee high boots and did not bring our hippers. We improvised and used some trash bags to wade one spot that was thigh deep. She didn't get the pic till I was almost across but you get the idea.

The first group we saw, maybe 8 or so, got lucky when the 35 MPH wind swirlled and gave us away. The next group wasn't so lucky. I watched my wife stalk to within 18 yds of this nice sow, and then put an arrow through the boiler room.

    Thumbs up

Nice job on the Hog! Looks like some great action down there. Too bad the off road pink tape brigade can't find their way in and out without the stuff, or at least remove it when they walk out. Same thing up in my neck of the woods. Keep up the great reports/ photos.

Where I hunt if you did that and left your stand at the other end they would steal, the stand, the tree it was connected to, the tree next to that, your bait pile, an old tree it looks like you might want to hunt out of, and YOU if your in the stand, If you are going to mark the trail use natural markers. I use a GPS. Some times I get lost.

Dang, your wife is a pig killing machine! Great job!

Heres a marking tape story for ya.
A couple weeks back, I hunted with Brad in a cypress bottom (like the one your walking through.) and after the end of the hunt, I said to Brad, do I need to pull out the GPS to find out which way to get out. He chuckles and says, if you need a GPS you dont need to be hunting. I was like.... hmmmm..... Brad has every gizmo known to man, so what was that all about.

We turn to head out, and I realize what hes talking about. Someone had painted blaze orange on the back of every tree on the way out. I mean, every tree. It was a twenty foot wide path of orange as far as you could see. I hadnt noticed it coming in, as the other sides were all left un-oranged. It definately took away from the remoteness I feel when hunting.
