So many nuts
So little time...
As I pulled into my driveway this evening, a Squirrel was sitting in our Pecan tree with nut in it's mouth sitting on a lower limb as if to say...what are you going to do about. Well the "red neck" came out in me and in the house I marched up to my room and back down with my Swedish competition pellet rifle and out the door I went. There were 3 of them eating our Pecans as hard as they could go and the ground crunched as I walked around the tree, looking for a shot. I finally spy one on the tip of a limb swaying in the 10 knot breeze, I brace the gun off on my Mom's car for the shot and start the timing as the Squirrel sways up and down in my sights and I squeeze the trigger...Damn, clean miss. Reload and repeat the process...another clean miss. Reload and spy another one on a more stable lower limb...take aim and squeeze the trigger and another one barks the tree and the one I aim at moves a split second before the pellet strikes the tree where his head was. Now I'm really steamed and the Squirrels are catching on to the game. One takes off to my in the tall pines to the neighbors yard and another one makes the leap of fate to our roof and heads to the tree on the other side of our house, but the one out on the limb has not run and is getting another nut. Still swaying in the breeze I squeeze off a shot and clip the limb he is on. As it is falling with him on it he grabs a limb on the way down and heads for the top of the pine next to it . I reload again and walk around the pine till I find him. By now I have a 45 to 50 yard shot free standing with no brace for the gun. He is sitting up on a limb with a nut in his mouth as if to mark me. I take aim and let out a deep breath and pull the trigger. Blam the pellet finds its mark on the side of his head and he and the nut hits the ground...ah life is good and one less nut thief. Tomorrow will be a bad day for the Squirrels and a good day for me. Nothing better than Squirrel Stew as the weather cools down! one down...more to go... the old trusty...
Lee do not forget to post the recipe in the grillin and chilln forum
I have a hedge row full of the grays. We placed 40 pound of seed for the birds beginning to head your way for the winter. The sum ..tches cleaned us out this morning till twelve noon. I am going to try baby food jars. When they stick their head in there and grabs the big nuts and get stuck. I will walk...run up and smack their azz with the ball bat
