sika deer report
good evening, well just got back from maryland after a 5 day hunt,,2 days with the cross bow and 3 days with the smoke pole,Trying to get with in 30 yards of a sika with the cross bow was tough, the first night I had a small doe looking up at me everytime she would lift her head off the corn pile,I was in a climber and i could hear more deer behind her but they wanted nothing to do with coming out of the bay berrys so she finally left after 10 to 15 min,I could of shot her but i was looking for a nice stag and yes they were whistling there heads off,When you can hear them during the day you know the rut is on.The first 2 days with the black powder i could of killed a doe every sit ( am , pm ) on the second night one stag whistled so close i dam near came flying out of the stand,But i could not locate him in the needle grass, they can sneak around with there heads down and they just keep on going,On the last sit which was last night a doe came in around 6:15 and im waiting for the stag to follow her up on the berm were the feeder is it was a tall spike maybe 6 to 8 inches as i watched them both swim accross the creek, well shooting time was running out and i wasnt going home with out some tasty venison so i settled the cross hairs from the zeiss high on her shoulder and touched off the 50 cal.all i could see was 6 feet of flame and i could hear the doe crashing in the marsh,so i packed up my stuff and went looking, she was a 3 to 4 year old about 15 yards from the feeder and she weight some were around 35 lbs which is normal a big doe might go 50 to 60 and a big stag might go 85 to 100lbs,,,come on rifle season 11/27 till then,,, ,, oh there was one guy shot in the hand or arm with his ram rod or the sabot ? anybody hear anything,,, ( toddsville ,maryland )
