Saturday's events......1st time this has happened to me

I decided to sit in a tree Saturday morning in the swamp next to my house. Saw a couple of small does (still with spots) in the thicket but their momma wasn't around.

On the way down out the tree is where it got a little scary. I was still about 15' up and my boots slipped out of the straps on my climber. I basically had to hang there for about 10 minutes (probably more like 2, but it seemed like forever) b/c my foot got caught up in something. Finally got free and hung as low as I could and just decided to drop. Note to self: tighten the boot straps. I'm glad it didn't happen higher up.

Close call eh....happened to me once, then i took a piece of rope 3' long and attached it to the seat of the climber, on the other end i attached a carabiner clip that i can attach to the base....i dont clip it on the way up...its like a convict trying to walk with leg irons on....but it will let you retrieve it if it drops out on you again...glad you didnt take the express way down the tree.

There is a rope that connects the 2 pieces but you can't really see it in the picture. It needs to be shortened... It will be a while before I can hunt again, so I've got plenty of time to make some adjustments.

Wow i would play the lottery if I were you!

The stand that I just bought has a strap on each side that can be adjusted to lock the two sections tight when in place and also serves to keep the two together.

Kinda Glad I bought that one now!

The next bite on a jig.
When using a climber, which is not very often, I also always were leather gloves. Learned this one from one of my cousins who came back to camp one day with no skin on his palms. He had slipped and bear hugged the tree on the way down. The bear hug technique broke his fall, but took the skin off his hands.

Also the connector rope, which most come with these days I think? I had to hang and drop one time from about 12 feet. Recover my base and go back up and get the top. It only takes once, because you feel totally helpless up there with only the top. This was on an older one that I later sold at a yard sale and wished it well.

Reason #1 I won't get up in those death traps. No manufacture will ever convince me there climbers are safe.

Glad to hear you made it out ok.

Glad you're OK man! I have had three freinds take real bad falls and all out of climbers. I still use mine (loggy bayou) but not that often.
