    RIFLE AMMUNITION: Ballistic Tips?

    Hey guys,
I've been shooting Ballistic Tips for quite some time now..I've had very good success with them, most of my deer drop, and if they run, I usually get a good blood trail. On a couple deer however, the bullet hasn't exited the deer and has left little to no blood at all..I guess this is because of the fragmentation of the Ballistic tip? Anyway, I was just interested in some feedback on what you guys are shooting...(caliber, grain bullet, etc..) and your success with them. Thanks!

Is a BT more accurate, more knock-down power, than say a Sierra Gameking silver-tip?

    I shoot a .270, Federal Vital Shok BT, 130gr.

i have a couple of freinds that have stopped using the ballistic tip just for that reason. i shoot federal premium with the Ballistic tip. they are very accurate in my rifle. 5 shot gourps subminute of angle. caliber is 7mm mag. i havent had an issue with them not performing. have killed 3 trophy bucks and all have been found within 40 yards of where they were shot. a small buck i shot year before last ran about 80 yards and the blood trail was thin. he was shot through lungs.

i have been thinking of trying something else because where i hunt now is very rugged and shooting a big deer and not getting penetration will not be good. but i haven't gotten past the thought.

Boat tails are more accurate than a flat base.

Winchester Ballistic silvertips are the most popular around here, but I don't think they leave a good blood trail if you need one. The Federals with the Sierra Gameking bullets are hard to beat depending on what caliber and grain you use. I know that bullet in .243 in 68 grains is deadly for a smaller caliber. I personally think that Hornady SST's in .270, .308, .30-06,and .338 are the best bullets out there for the money.

my father was having the same problem with the .270 130grain bullet so he switched to the 180 grain and has had no more issues...3 or the last 4 deer have dropped in thier tracks....the 130grain just seemed to be moving toooo fast..had to do very little as far as scope adjustments as well..

Hornady in your .270 win 140 grain btsp best game stopper, no problems ever with this ammo, are you reloading? or shooting factory? with th 140gr zero 1.5" high a 100m spot on again at 235m. the bullet coeficent is much better. Enjoy
