Just bought a rem. 700sps in .308. Anybody have any reviews on this gun. I put a nice nikon scope on it as well. Would you recommend getting a magazine built into this gun?

you bought a great hunting gun but the Special Purpose Synthetic model will be limited as far as long-range accuracy compared to the Pss models of the 700.
the sps is still a 10" twist rate barrel, the lightweight will lend more to being a easy to carry gun when packing in and out of the woods, but i would recommend leaving the 4-round hinged mag plate as factory designed. the reason for this is evident as you start noticing group degradation as you fire past the cold-break point of your barrell. my Rem 700 sps tends to drop 3/8" and to the right every shot after 4 on a cold barrel. my Ruger mk77 mk2 in 300 win. mag drops 1/2" and to the left after the 3rd shot. these are both light barreled guns with no wear on the barrels and distances of 100yds with factory ammo. my 300 wmag remington 700 PSS version is the heavy barrel and doesn't hot-break until the ninth or tenth shot. this is the difference between a heavy and light barreled gun. with less metal in the barrel it heats faster and loses accuracy with every shot. remember metal changes, expanding with heat.

My point on the box mag not being needed is you will find yourself wanting to shoot more rapidly and possibly overheating the barrel. my suggestion is that you have a fine gun, just practice, practice, practice, have a trigger job done, and learn where it breaks at. shoot multiple rounds of different factory ammo from a solid rest and record results until you find what it likes. and most of all, make the first shot count and there is no need for a follow up shot.
