    Remington 700

I'm sure most of you have seen the reports and news programs about the safety issues with these guns. Just curious if anybody has any personal experience with problems?

I don't have one but now have heard of three confirmed incidents where the gun fire when it shouldn't. The last was this past weekend at our hunting lease. The shooter pulled the trigger (safety off) and nothing happened. Raised the gun without touching the safety or trigger and BOOM.

Other incident involved a hunter laying the gun down on a bed with a round in the chamber (yes I know, stupid) and BOOM. This one I have heard about second hand so I don't know with certainty that it happened.

Third incident is one of my best friends was sighting his dad's 700. Had it on the lead sled, released the safety and BOOM.

I know they are coming out of the woodwork since the class action lawsuits are heating up, but just curious if anyone has any personal experience, or verified situations, with this problem? The fact that I know of three when I don't know that many other hunters is a little strange...

I was a gunsmith for a while. The only issues I saw with these guns was after someone had tried to adjust the trigger without knowing what they were doing. Adjustable triggers are nice if adjusted properly.

I have a 700ADL I purchased used in 1975 and have followed the directions to adjust the trigger to 3.5 lbs. Never a pproblem before or after the trigger adjustments. In fact, after adujusting the trigger on this rifle, I slammed it, pounded on it with my fist, etc. to make sure the gun was still safe.
I also have a 700BDL that is circa 1969 but I've only owned for 3 years--- no trigger adjustments and is safe as well.
This being said, there are too many other fantastic and economical rifles out there to take a chance and I won't be buying another one

    definitely

my uncle's Rem. 700 .270 misfired on a couple of occasions, one time through the floorboard of his truck. He took it in to have it fixed.

Loaded in the truck? That is just stupid.

I actually have had the same problem adjusting my own trigger, you get it so light that the trigger will go off closing the bolt. I fixed it by adjusting it properly.

    No Jay,

He's not stupid, he was standing outside shucking out the bullets with the door open after he was done hunting. You're also calling everyone who hunts with dogs (which we don't), "stupid".

Not only is it stupid to carry a loaded rifle or shotgun in your vehicle it is also against the law.

People take firearms way to lightly and pass these same wrong and unsafe practices to there children.

and yes, there are alot of stupid people who hunt, both with or without dogs.

    Interesting thoughts...

I know that one of the 700's has never been adjusted or worked on. Can't speak for the other two.
    Thanks-
