Tons o Sh*t at the home front only got out late saturday... It was bacholer day.. all three had horns and the lead 6 would have never known where the shaft came from!! Just can not get on a doe! this week is crazy like you soo sad to say I STILL SUCK! keep after them... The does will change patterns real soon as the bucks get a little more interested!
Took Mike to the yards tonight after this damn Noreaster left. The wind had died down and it was only raining a little here and there. As we pulled in 9 were feeding in the front yard. I probably coulda tried to stick one then and there, but wanted Mike to get a chance from the stands.
He went up the climber and I went to the strap on stand. The herd was never spooked by us, so that was good news.
By around 5:30ish a lone doe came in to inspect the yards and came within 35 of Mike. He didn't have his bow up and she didn't like what she saw and went searching for some friends. Not spooked...more good news.
About 6:00 the nervous doe from the first day and her fawn showed up. She's about 6in. shooter than most does her size. Strange looking.
They cautiously came into the corn that is 15yds from my stand. They held up at 30 yds for quite a while the whole time allowing a nice 30 yd broadside shot. Mike only had a few places he could shoot and I knew that. With the fawn nearly under my stand, and the doe cautiously feeding on corn, I got ready for my chance.
Mike picked up his rangefinder and the doe spotted the movement, she spooked and went from 15yds down the hill to 25, staring at Mike the whole time. I took the opportunity to draw and looked for the fawn first, she was still eating...No shot through the poplar between us so I went to momma. Her head was behind a big poplar and left me with plenty of body to work with. I relaxed.....aimed.....squeezed.........THWACK!!!!!!
That tell tale sound, but where did it hit. It was by no means dark, but I couldn't see the damn hit. The doe didn't buck and only "jogged" away with the tail down. Couldn't see where she was hit.
By 7:00 we started on the trail. The arrow had gut juice on it.....SHIT!!!
How the hell did I do that. Maybe I jerked the release....SHIT SHIT SHIT.
We looked around the area for blood or other signs and only had a few measly tracks in the leaves to follow her trail. The wind was blowing and the rain was coming off the trees. Man this can't be good.
It was now DARK. Followed the trail I thought she went down and couldn't find a damn thing. Did see two spots of diahrea like shit splattered, but don't know what to think of that. NO BLOOD AT ALL ANYWHERE....>WTF!!!
Looked for almost an hour and never found a damn thing. Too many tracks in the area and too many places for her to hide. Gonna go back tomorrow and see what I can find, but the meat will be useless by then. SHIT
So I'm pissed and going to bed. Hope it was a fatal shot, hate to think there's a wounded deer laying around tonight.
