    question about acorns

the water has been up on the swamp side of our lease since september. all the oaks on that side of the road dropped their acorns in the water. the water receeded some over the past two weeks even though it is going to come up some over the next week, some ground around oak trees will be getting dry. will the deer be able to eat those acorns or will the water have spoiled them. has anybody out there had any experience with this? i ask because there were alot of deer in there that will want to go back but there is nothing for them to eat unless those acorns are edible.

    Mitt,

I really can't answer that question with regard to the water. I expect it wouldn't take long to get in there and open up a few and check it out. Frost seem's to be the problem with the nut's around here. A good heavy frost will cause them to "sour". Although I have seen the squirell's still eatin them in the swamp's. Frank
