Had the opportunity to hunt with some good friends of mine Ben and his brother Walker on Saturday. Saturday morning was kinda slow several young bucks 2.5 years or younger and small does. But Saturday afternoon, it was pure mayhem. Got in the woods around 3:45 and got settled in for the afternoon hunt. We were spread out across the backside of their property were that morning Ben and Walker’s dad had seen quite a bit of deer movement. Well at 4 pm Ben shot and normally I carry my cell phone but I left it in the truck, so we were out of contact. So I settled in and waited to see what the rest of the afternoon had in store for me. Well it was kinda slow until 445 when a 1.5 year old, 6 and a 4 pointer came into the field behind me and started to spar and fight a little. kinda cool watching them trying to be big man in the woods well. At 505 with the two bucks behind me I had two does come into the food plot in front of me and I figured it was go time. First doe stepped out at 100 yards with her cohort in toe 150 grain corlokt out of the .308 did the job and then doe number two took the same walk that the other deer made. Im sitting there thinking whether or not shoot, wait why am I thinking there is another north Carolina butterball walking out. shot number 2 doe number 2 down about 13 yards into the woods. Well I get my stuff together and get down from the stand to go and check my deer and head to meet the other guys and get the fourwheeler. Well as I walked up the road towards where Ben was hunting I round the corner and see white belly and horns ben has shot a stud 8 pointer his biggest deer to date. Needless to say we had a four wheeler load, 195 pound 8 pointer and 2 125 pound does. But it was a great trip well I got a few more deer hunting days then it’s off to morehead city for tooners and ducks. Thanks to ben and walker and family for a great trip.
