Plenty of Bows but no String!!
My RANT for the day!!
Yesterday I visited the BassPro Shops Outdoor World here in Myrtle Beach SC. You see I wore out the string on an old recurve I've had since I was 8. Hadnt picked it up in a while and figured I'd restring it so my nephews could start enjoying it some. WHEEEW WEEEE.........bows, bows and more bows, I figured this place has got it all. I looked around and low and behold there are some new recurves hanging on the shelf, any moment now and we'll see those strings. I looked and looked and looked. I asked the salesperson and yeah there by the crossbows but I'm buzy right now with this other customer. OK.....I look at the crossbows, no recurve string. Plenty of crossbow string! So I figured, they're here somewhere, I asked another, Yeah there on the acessory isle, YOU sure, cause I done looked there now twice.........Uh Ok, I looked some more. No string...... Finally, the BOW GURU comes out of the back (where hed been practicing I assume from his toting the Bow and Quiver), Finally someone that knows his section! This guy says......... Sorry we dont carry string for recurves. HUUUH, WHAT? You sell recurves but not the string? UH....Yes sir.....Uh, I guess that doesnt make much sense does it? UHHHH, Not in my book it doesnt. Well.. strike that idea about having it all! I did see that they sold guns and yes they did have shells. They also sold arrows for bows, but I can not understand why they would not sell the string!! And Daddy said I did some stupid things!Well, I feel better now! ![]() |

Bass Pro sucks.
If you want a certain brand of something and it happens to be something that the BPS brand "Offshore Angler" makes, you can forget it. They are too busy trying to push their brand of imitations they won't stock the name brands. They didn't even have 7691 Mustads. They weren't out of stock either, they just don't sell them. service sucks and just an all around pain in the ass to even walk in that place. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TACKLE SHOP

Their bow shop is fairly worthless! Being new to all this I bought a starter bow from them back in the fall (Arundel Mills location) Paid a good price for a lower end PSE and figured all was good. They started to set the bow up for me and got bout 60% the way through and was told they could not finish. I was there on a Friday night and they were not able to tune the bow completely so they said I had to bring it back. I returend first thing Saturday morning and the guy too the bow from me and started shaking his head and muttering crap under his breath. Apparently in his eyes the guy from the night before did some things wrong so he decided to start again tying a new release loop etc. He was a cranky SOB the whole two hours I was there getting it tuned. I figured I could deal with it cause based on his initial reaction I made the assumption that he new more than the other guy from the night before so I though that I must be in better hands. Finally get it done and take it home. I practiced with it for the past 4 months and decided that I wanted to get a new/better arrow rest and wanted to have it looked at because of a noise that was present when I drew the arrow.
At the advisement of a buddy I took the bow to Len Marsh of Macrotech in Brooklyn Park, MD. Without being ther for 5 minutes, I was informed that there were some major tuning issues with the bow and arrows. Needless to say those are being fixed as I type this. The good thing is Len is tuning the bow for only the charges of adding a new rest. I am also having him add a larger peep and a kisser button. In addition to the bow issues Len went through the 6 arrows that I had also purchased from BPS and found that 3 of the six were out of balance. I guess you get what you pay for! If your still looking for the string, I am sure Len would either have it, order it or fabricate it for you and regularly deals with people all over the country. He is a bit rough around the edges but is a straight shooter and values his customers. Give him a call at 410-789-7777

Yeah......You'd think that an operation like that would have true professionals that know a little about their sport. Last year I had a guy approach me while I was looking at some tackle, I jokingly asked what was caught offshore of here and he didnt have a clue. You;d think that they would at least have associates that know what a fish was if youre going to be giving advice on tackle. Oh well!

Capt-D's fellow sounds like he should have what you need, but if not a buddy of mine has a bow shop here in Laurel. Here is his website, pretty basic but so is he. His contact info is on there.
