We have been spending lots of time at the farm and have not been home to post much. I want to share some pics from the farm and from our dog club. Not many deer to show. But I have tons of stories to post about. Most outstanding has to be last wed afternoon we head to the dog club to sit in stands. On the way to mine we run over a copperhead snake. I guess that should have been a sign for me to be on the look out. right? well i did not look out very good. I made my way to my stand. Nice little metal ground blind with good camoflauge. lots of vines and stuff growing on it, blends into the undergrowth of the pine thicket. That description should be a dead give away for what happens next. I am set up with a metal chair in my ground blind. I sit there very still, got my thermacel going. keeping a good look out for deer. I see some squirrels. lots of squirels. They were scurrying all over the place. I did not think a thing of the noise in the leaves just outside my blind. then something told me to look down at the floor(rotted plywood none the less). I could not believe what I saw there IN the ground blind. Had to look away and look back. There he (copperhead snake) was smelling at my leg(in shorts and crocs) or either the thermacel, not sure. camera was on the floor so i have no pics. He had the door blocked and was nestled there coiled up next to my gun. just me and the metal chair. All ground blinds should have two doors!!! He struck a few times before i distracted him and scared him with the chair. made my exit at that point. He was gone before I could get the gun on him. When BeagleMan showed up after dark to get me I asked what he saw. He said he had a moccisan strike at him while walking out from the stand. I got to tell him that was nothing, wait till you hear this.
