I think Admin is going to let me have this space
Persistence
My wife and I have been hog hunting 4 weekends this year and until today had yet to see a hog. We have had good success spot and stalk bowhunting in the past but not this year. Because of my shoulder being hurt and not able to draw my bow, we have been hunting with .22s. We have been on good sign, real good sign but not the kind my wife likes. She is a bit particular about the kind sign she likes, those tracks with the hoof still in them or rooting with a nose still in it. We got on a hog quick this morning. We were in FRESH sign and finally saw the nose of a big black and white hog still in the rooting. We were only 20yds but it was thick. A swirl of the wind saved this hogs life. We hunted on to about 10 covering a lot of ground but no more sightings. Hopped back in the truck to check the back 40 and ran into some nice folks from PA. We moved on giving them some space and headed back in the thicket. We hadn't gone far when Kay spotted a couple hogs maybe 200 yrds out moving pretty quick. No shot there so we moved on in that direction and she spotted another hog, this one a bit closer. Another swirl in the wind put this hog on the move. My wife has not done much shooting at moving game but we had discussed at lenght about leads and such. This hog was headed out and I told her she better shoot. The hog crossed a small opening and the .22 mag cracked. I didn't hear the bullet hit but sometimes you do sometimes you don't. This hog was getting it pretty good. She asked me if I heard it hit him and I said no. She said "well, I had the cross hairs on the end of his nose when I pulled the trigger." "Let's go look" I said. Didn't take much looking and we found the sow pilled up. She had hit the hog right behind the shoulder, a perfect shot. I guessed it to be 90 yds but went back and stepped it off, 130 long steps. That's a mighty fine shot I don't care who you are.
