    Pamlico Sound - Hatteras Reef

Slow on the reef, really just a total lack of birds.

I did manage to kill the most easily fooled redhead on the face of the earth, a hen.

I would call her stupid, but that is disrespectfull to the bird.

It was very sunny and really hard to see.

We called in some pintails, but the passed right in the sun, and I missed twice.

My father in law got a big bull sprig on the third shot.

Then a single red head hen buzzed us from behind, no shot, she circled by again down wind, I missed her twice, well here she comes again, missed her twice again!. She figured she was safe at this point and wheels around for a fourth pass, missed her with the first shot but got with with the back barrel.

When she fell my father in law said I better go get her quick as I had a lot of money invested at that point. Only half were heavy shot!

Total take for the day in our group.

Two pintail Drakes, two widgeon drakes, a ringneck drake, and a red head hen.

saw a few brant and geese, no lookin.

    Slow, total lack of birds.

Sounds good Capt. Maybe I should have gone to the sound, instead of drowning bunker on the point. Happy New Year...

The Pintails are starting to show pretty decent up here on the Pamunky River marshes-- (we may have the best Pintail numbers on the Western Side of the Bay). Our Greenwings left last week so maybe you'll get a decent push of Sprigs before the end of the season. (I would imagine they're in pretty good numbers at Pea Island by now). Hear tell the Wideons are still thick in S. Jersey and the Redheads are the best they've been in several years in Tangier Sound right now.
Hope ya'll get em before the end of the season
