PA Gobbler season so far
Well last week I was laying the plan as I tucked him into bed 3 evenings but alas I couldn't find or hear him Friday evening no worry he had to be in the area so I would setup on him on a small top near the field edge he likes to strut in.04:30 found me sitting patiently with decoy's deployed and as the light of day began I was sure I would hear him.....Not so I used some soft tree clucks and slowly increased the pitch all of the sudden all hell breaks loose off to my right come 6 deer crashing through the woods I am thinking got a close look at them from about 10 feet as they went by and my fall buck was with them he looks gooooood so far.Well I figure I will let things settle a bit so I relax and wait when I hear some soft clucks down the hill from me so I go into the purr and cluck mode it seems like an eternity as I am sure he is headed for me, puuuurrr purrrr cluck cluck BOOOOOOOM son of a beach, little did I know the deer spooker had moved in and setup on me and now shot my gobbler <shakinghead> being the sport I am and wanting to make sure he is on his side of the line I ease on down to have a look, well all is well he had killed a young jake and it was his first I shook his hand and congradulated him and took some pictures for him with his camera and he thanked me for calling the bird in decided because of the small property I am hunting that the morning is over for the day.I spent a few hours back there this AM again and still haven't heard from the big boy or any other gobbler for that matter. This hunting gobblers in woods sections of farm country is a whole new ballgame and of course the crowds are hard to get away from. To Be Continued. This picture was taken from my driveway several weeks ago the whole flock is moving through my back 40. |

i would kill to turkey hunt in terrain like that....just gourgeous. as much as i love our cape fear river lowlands, i really enjoy hunting open areas like your picture. but i have a feeling those hills would wear this flat-lander slam out!
