    Over heard at Duck Camp!

Been a Great Season, can't beleive its almost over.

Some choice Quotes from Duck Camp. Edited.

    “Those ducks are too high……..”click”…………BOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!”

    “I shot that Canvasback”

“We had a fine display of poor shooting and worse”

“BOOOM !!! …..Why didn’t you shoot that bird?”
    “Is it legal time yet?”
    “Well, I could see it”

“For the record are we going to “flock Shoot” or try and pick one out?“

“I waited………………………....until just before I thought you were going to shoot”

“I hate that you are leaving us to pursue other ducks……………are you taking your food ?”

My reports to fellow duck club members since about Christmas time and borrowed from an old OBX Charter Captain:

Started off slow and tapered off from there.

Ok, I'll warn you now...this lil story is a bit long but worth it...and true.
My father once ran a hunting lodge down on Hoopers Island and usually took my brother and I the last couple days of duck season once all the "paying" customers we're done. At the time I was 15 and my brother Jeff was 14. Now Jeff wasn't the "outdoorsy" type, but went none the less. This particular day we were set up in a blind overlooking a pond. A pair of mallards came in...shots fired, drake did the death spiral next to the blind and the crippled hen ended up in the cattails on the other side of the pond. Dad looked at us and said..."go get her". Well I took my trusty Savage single shot 20 ga and Jeff and I walked around the pond looking for the hen. As we approached I could see her briefly running head down through the cattails trying to get away...Jeff begins to run after her and proceeds to leap through the air and pounce on the damn thing. (Visualize vintage Jimmy Superfly Snuka) Over heard at Duck Camp!-snuka.jpg What happens next will forever be ingrained into my memory...Jeff jumps to his feet with his hand firmly clasped around the hens neck...wings flapping like a Tasmanian devil, he held her up over his head...looked away and yelled..."SHOOT IT...SHOOOOOOOOT IT!!!" If ever there was a WTF moment that was it!! I looked at him and said..."dude, I'm not going to shoot a duck out of your hand"...he looks at me straight faced and said..."Ok...I'll throw her in the air and then you shoot her". I grabbed the duck out of his hand, promptly and properly dispatched her. I'm pretty sure thats the last time Jeff and I hunted together!!!
