    Opening Day in MD

Hunted Kent Island on opening day of firearm season in MD on a tiny parcel of land...Had a small buck walk past me at about 7:30 and I decided to pass on him since I was looking for a bigger buck or a doe...Well he made the mistake of circling around about an hour later and walking under my stand...With me they only get one chance to keep walking and since I was looking for meat I reached out and touched him with a powerbelt from my 50 caliber...He dropped on the spot so it was a successful morning...He had 5 points and then 2 broken brow tines...Maybe 130 lbs dressed...He looked to be an older deer to me with his long gray face...

Came back in the afternoon and had a nice nap for the first hour up there... At 3:45 a doe walked in followed by a real good buck with heavy main beams, but with the one in the morning I gotta kill 2 does before the second buck...The doe spooked and the buck looked up at me while sniffing the spot where the buck had died earlier so they were off...Right at dark in the distance through some thick stuff I could see quite a few deer running around and I think the buck was over there chasing them...2 big does and 2 yearlings came walking under me right at the end of legal shooting time but I couldn't see the front of my iron sights...

Another good start to Deer season in MD with Dad yesterday...

That is a pretty deer, and a very good eating size at that...

I love shooting smaller deer because I want the meat and they taste better, but I am not against shooting a big one....

    Congrats on the nice deer...
