He will actually lose a little bit off his beard between now and the season from breeding and fighting, feeding. Probably be down a pound or two as well while chasing hens. Usually the older bigger spurred birds 3 year old and if he's lucky 4 year old, tend to have a little shorter beards than the 1 1/2 -2 year old birds in general. Still he needs killin' after he has done his duty.
