Turkey season is in full swing down in the Low Country of SC. This past weekend the Bride and I went looking for Ole Thunder Chicken. Now Thunder Chicken is a special bird, been huntin him for two years, needless to say hes a smart bird.
Heard him callin to a pretty young thang and the hunt was on. We set up on the creek hoping he'd come in fired up.
I hit that call, and it PURRRRRRED "COME ON IN HERE BIG PAPA" "IM WAITIN FOR YA" " I GOT MY BLACK DRAWS ON". Man that bird went to spittin and a drummim, I knew he was close. So I sat back and made him come a lookin for PYT. He didnt come lookin, he came runnin, I guess he was fraid he was gonna miss some good lovin, saw PYT and her sister and he was one fired up bird. He kicked, jumped, danced and strutted all around them two decoys. He tried to climb up on PYT but she rolled over and he kept on tryin to get her right.
I guess he though the had killed her with his love. PYT wouldnt get up so he turned his attention to her sister, He blowed up and spun around on her like he was doin the Electric Slide. He kicked left, kicked right then let out a Thunderous GOBBBBBLLLE GOBBBBBLEE.
I knew it was time for Lucy to SHOWER DOWN on him. I looked at her and she said tell me when. I told her to raise the gun when he turns away and put OLe JELLY HEAD down. She did and and next thing I know she had rolled OLe THUNDER CHICKEN where he stood.
Too bad for him, I guess this just proves what Chasin Gals will do for ya. We headed back to the house with Tom Tom in tow. Once we arrived he hit the scales and weighed out at 22lbs. Biggest Bird Ive ever been a part of killin.![]()
