Nuclear Site Hunt Report

After years of hearing about the Savannah River Site Hunt I decided to apply and give it a go. A buddy and I drove up to Aiken the day before so we would be on time for the 5:30 rollcall. What a surprise I got! Security forces searched us and the dogmens vehicles. I guess looking for terrorist hounds?HaHa. After a safety briefing and a good tongue lashing by some hard a$$es there were 100+ redneck hunters ready to blast away at an overpopulated deer herd. Now if you dont know where or what this place is, Ill tell ya, its where our weapons grade nuclear material has been produced since the 1950's. So needless to say these guys are serious about entering this facility. We were escorted to an undisclosed area known as a unit which took us thirty minutes to drive to in armed caravan. I felt like I was in that movie CONAIR for a while. Upon arrival at the unit, the roads were shut down by security forces and we entered the area for the deer slayin. 57 trucks of dogmen then came in behind us and proceeded to stir up the pot. Man for the first 2 hours it sounded like a Dove Hunt....continuous shootin nonstop! Now this is one fine lookin place for deer and they were runnin everywhere but by me. We were allowed to go 20 yards from our drop off point and that was it! If you killed a deer and didnt fall within your 20 yards you were insructed to not proceed until individuals accompanied you to find it. I saw one deer....a fine buuck but it was 120yards from me so I didnt shoot it. All the while trucks entered and then exited loaded down with deer to be checked for radiation before leaving. Then as soon as it began it was over.... we were picked up by our vans and returned to the gate for deer pickup. Now boys let me tell you....that was a pile of deer.....there must have been 10-20 8 to 11 pointers that would have made any man proud. One in particular would score around 160 in my opinion maybe more. But all in all 84 deer, 10 hawgs and 1 coyote was taken in 3-4 hours of hunting. How many were not found.......probably as many as were found. This was definetly an experience.....if anybody ever wants to go......search Savannah River Site Deer Hunt and it will show you the way. Everybody should go one time just to see the system if nothing else.

Ace if you ever kill a deer let me know Ill make you some of the best Jerky you have ever ate.

Oh yes..........its definetley an ADRENALINE RUSH!

Its my understanding that people have been shot in the past...thats one of the reasons for the 20 yard rule I'm told. Standers are put out 300 yards from each other so its relatively safe at that distance I guess.

No pictures can be taken inside of facility but I do have some being sent to me from the deer unload outside the facility. Should have them up today hopefully.

STRESS.......I make a little jerky myself but Ill get you some meat if you like.
