Nov 4 Box Guided Hunt

I had been talking with Box about hunting over the past few months and wanted to get Daniel my 8 year old out for his first time. Daniel has been dying to go, but I mostly hunt out of climbing stands and didn’t have a good place to take him so he could enjoy the hunt. Box offered to let me and Daniel come with him on Wed he thought that we had a good chance at seeing a deer and other game.

We went out bright and early Wed morning, Box walked us in to our stand and we were up and set for the hunt. We sat about 4 hours we didn’t see any deer, but did watch the squirrels. Daniel did a very good job for his first time and was still and quite the whole time. Walking in Box had to show him how to not walk like a kid i.e. picking up his feet instead of dragging them.

We met Box and he walked us around to a couple of other afternoon options, in the process I walked up on a Doe and promptly blew the shot a clean miss. We let Daniel pick were we would sit in the afternoon, and he picked were we saw the doe.

We got set-up with about 3 hours of stand time at our new spot. I little over an hour into the hunt looky who comes out. I didn’t blow this shot as soon as he was on the ground Daniel said “see I told you this is where we needed to sit this afternoon”. We stayed in the stand longer and watched the turkeys and possum. Box met us we cleaned the deer and headed home.

I was very happy with how Daniel did during the hunt. He isn’t quite ready to do his own shooting, but will be soon. He showed a better understanding of the whole hunting experience than I thought he would. He told me a couple of pretty cool things. In the morning when we were getting ready to walk out after not seeing any deer he said “more people should get out like this and enjoy nature, this is fun, and you learn stuff”. At the end of the hunt he said “we sure are lucky that Marty invited us to hunt with him, Marty is a really nice guy”.

Box thank you again for having us out it means a lot to me and Daniel and I both had a great time.

Here is a short video of the hunt. Hey is that a Charlie Jenkins hat Daniel is wearing?
