    Note to Self: tides fall

Greed will do it everytime. I've been hunting this shallow tidal bay for 3 years now and when the tide goes out, there is not a drop of water in the mouth of the bay. The Teal are back and the Pintail are here in full force. Don't know why (with a falling tide), but the ducks started flying like there was no tomorrow. Just me and son #2 today and we got our quick measly 2 bird limit of Pintails. Starting picking shots with Mallards and Teal as the tide was falling quick--- next thing I know---" where da hell is the water". Ended up pushing the boat 1/4 mile through pluff mud--- I will pay for this in the morning. Finished with 1 bird shy of our 10 limit (2 Sprigs, 4 Greenwing, 2 Mallards s, and 1 young Gray duck (I don't care what anyone says, it won't a hen Pintail but a young Gadwall/Mallard mix)
Man I'm whooped and will be one sore puppy tomorrow.

I hear ya man. For the last 3 days we have pushed pulled and drug that stupid boat out to the shanty! Yesterday we even had the plan of abandoning the boat, but pulled it anyway. Monday if the tide is low and the ice is thick I'm hoofin it!

The tide goes the other way too. One of my spots in Jersey I can walk in at mid tide or less. Low water its dry and high its over my waders. I went out one day in a snowy north easter. It was howling wind. Set up. Started blammin. Tide was flooding in fast. I stayed. Got greedy as the case may be. Too windy to row the raft I use to tote my stuff out with. Got back toward the channel and shipeed a bit over the top of the waders. Got in the raft and stood a chance of being blown into a bad place. Rowed my arse off trying to quarter the wind. Busted an oar so I had to use the other as a paddle. Only barely ade it to safety. A few more feet and I would have been sucked into a fast moving river to the bay and eventually to the ocean...

Sounds like you had a great day. A little mud draggin wont hurt a thing...

Glenn, a heavy nor'wester will do that Happened to dad and I couple years ago on the last day of the season, couldn't even get the boat out of the gut we were hiding it in until about 9pm, burned some old wood and marsh grass to keep warm. But it sure was worth it if you know what I mean

Been there done that Glenn. Hunting the salt marsh around here in years past, the tide has left us high and dry. Glad you all had a good hunt.
