    North Dakota Trip

just got back in last night from a short trip out to North Dakota. didnt get to hunt as much as i would have liked but it was nice to get out of town, see/hunt some new places. killed some mallards over dry land which was an experience and shot my first snow geese. most of the mallards and canada geese had hauled ass so we had to make do with what was around. got a few decent pictures...stepdad has some more but he has yet to email them to me....will post when i recieve. also have a short video of about 10,000 snows getting out of a field we hunted...will see if i cant get that up.

but for now, im glad to be back near the saltwater .

a mix of snow and Ross' geese.

and....a picture im not proud of....a North Dakota Trashcan Limit (i was desperate )

hey, a limit is a limit

I bet you guys left a day or two early for the big push that I'm sure will be riding this front...either way sounds as though you got to experience some new hunts and see some new ground...ND is a special place for sure

Kill every one of those shovelers before they get down our way. Interesting they are not even close to full plumage yet. I've always wanted to hunt N. Dakota and do the pot hole scouting game. If the Shovelers are still there, have the bulk of divers even arrived from North of N. Dakota yet?

Glen, I was up there for the first ten days of October and by the end of the trip the divers were just starting to trickle down. I'd say it's in full swing now with the temps and forecast for the next week or so. Most of the potholes are probably frozen or they will be shortly...Surprisingly we shot a fair number of blue wing teal on our afternoon pot hole hunts this year which was a first for us but we normally are there late October most years

Interesting on the BW Teal. The marsh my club leases ussually gets a few BW but not many. This year during the Oct. season some buds in my club ( Tidewater Va.) waylayed the Bluewings on that Sat. that the Tropical Storm passed through. Yesterday we brushed our 2 River Blinds and saw numerous wads of BW Teal. (could have been GW but pretty sure they were Blues). I have never seen so many BW in my part of Va. Hearing they are still meandering way up in ND is fantastic. The Federal Survey said all Teal Pops were way way up this year. Let's home the GW do the same and flood the Atlantic Flyway once the weather turns.

We saw two or three groups Saturday while brushing blinds in eastern NC. We shoot a few early every year but the large groups always show up every year on the full moon at Christmas...It's shaping up to be a good year as long as the weathe to the north cooperates

the hens spoonies were fully plumed....that drake spoonie was just immature. most of the sloughs held some decent numbers of bluebills, spoonies, and surprisingly...gadwalls. the mallards bailed at some point last week. the weather was unseasonably warm....mid to high 50's during the day...30 at night. they were supposed to get 7" of snow today so i think it will be froze up in 2-3 weeks.
