I was looking for a small deer rifle for my son, and came across a deal from my yuppy partner on an old but hardly ever fired (12 rounds) Remington 700 BDL in 6mm Rem. I had heard of this cartridge before, but didn't know anything about it. So I did a little research on the net. Seems it is very similar to a 243 Win with factory loads with some more handloading possibilities.
Possibilities? Shit I just shoot the dag gum thing and hope it hits the mark every now and then.
So I called a friend that is really (I mean really) into guns, ballistics, hopped up shit and the like. I tell him what I bought and you would have thought I just aquired the publicity rights to the Magna Carta.
Turns out he is a 6mm bench rest shooter (what ever the hell that is). He wants to take my gun, glass bead it, do something to the bolt and trigger, and give me some of his "sombich, you ain't going to believe this shit" handloads. Then he want's to sight it in for me.
He also said the Leopold 3x9 scope I want to put on it is ok, if I only want to get out to 350-400 yds, but it is a waste of his work.
Jimminy Crickets, 400 yds and a waste of his time? Is he BSing me?
