Been doing the ND thing for eight years now and have been turned down less than a handfull of times and only then due to the cattle they had feeding in the fields which I can respect. October is probably the most predictable time to go but weather changes from one year to the next, we have experienced snow storms, short sleave weather and drought while stacking green heads in dry fields which is our preferred way of hunting.
If you want to hunt more and scout less a guide is definately worth the money, we just enjoy the whole deal with finding the birds, securing permission and stacking them the next morning. Best of luck with your decision
