Saturday Nov 3rd was opening day of muzzleloading season in Va. Hunting with my son Tim, Grandson Andy, and I were hunting at the club we belong to in Powhatan County which is west of Richmond. I shot mine @ 12:15 PM with the wind gusting to 30 mph with me thinking this is a bummer trip. It just took a minute for him to appear coming across the swamp land where I had my stand setup. This place has been good to me for the past ten years, at least in seeing deer and not necessarily killing them but getting them on vidio. I shot at the only opening I had which was going into the water from the second island and then on to dry land. One and a half hours later I found him about 400 yards away. A decent 8 point, not a trophy, but decent for me. I called my son and grandson to come help me drag him out of the woods, damn those cell phones are worth it!LOL After we got him to my ATV I told them to go get back on their stands for the next few hours. The wind blew all day. I was back at the club when I got a call from my son saying that Andy had shot two spikes. Andy is 17 and to his killing credit was a button and a spike in the previous 5 years. Well the talk back at the club was Andy had shot some nice deer, here again from cell phone calls from other club members hunting that day. About a half hour after dark Tim and Andy come pulling into the club with two NICE deer on the the ATV trailer. The story is the big one came into the power line about 50 yards from Andy's stand and he shot and the deer ran about 100 yards and piled up. As Andy was coming back into the power line to get on his stand until Tim got there the other 8 pointer was feeding in the food plot about 50 yards away and Andy shot and this one went straight down. Was his Father and Grandfather proud of him, you bet cha! The bigger one was 165# and 3 1/2 years old.
