MOJO DECOY? ANY IDEAS???
WELL well well,
This morning i awoke and began to prepare for my daily routine, as i walked out the front door, BRRRRR, what, check the temp?? its in the upper 40's,
, well cold weather brings one thing to my mind, HUNTING TIME BIAATCH!
all day i kept dozing off in class, for some reason the thought of a dozen Fat Greenheads prepairing to land in my spread of dekes just kept popping up? To me, pulling the trigger on a that fat greeny backpeddling for the heavons is the same as grabbing that wire on a 300 pound blue, its that adrenline, i love it..........
So, ive got a question for all the Waterfowl boyz on SFC,
Last season i purchased this Roboducky thing, you know the mojo. Didnt get much time to try it out.
I need some opinions on placement in the spread, and thoughts on this supposed duck slayer??????????
PS. I hunt on a pond surounded by marsh, and run a small spread of about a dozen mallards.

i hunt a lot in very tight timber. i found the spinners to work best when placed pretty well hidden in the trees off to the side of the spread, which is usually in a small opening. in the wide open, i think they flare birds, especially as the sun gets higher in the day.
if you are dead set on using one, purchase a remote so you can cut that spinning ******* off when the birds flare or else just bump it on and off, maybe when your birds are on their outer swing as they circle.
i really think the spinning wing decoy has lost its effectiveness over the years......

me llamo SUPER Dave
Matt is 100% correct.
Their effectiveness is hit and miss. Teal will try and rape one, mallards like them.....That's about it IMO.
Having a remote is a major advantage. Geese flare off of them too.
I like it maybe 5yds in front of the blind, and off to the side a little.
Mojo's are great on some days, and will flare everything the next. Don't be afraid to not use it when ducks are flaring.

I hope Swancaller chimes in on this as he has a much different view than us on the Mojo's-- but what does he know?-- he's only a full time ducking guide on Currituck Sound.
I agree with Matt and the Pollack-- They do work well for me here in Va. the first couple of days of the season, but the birds get wise or spooky to them real quick. They can and will flare ducks, but they can and will turn them your way as well. I think the best thing is to get a remote so you can turn it on to get their attention and turn it off as they start working you.
Onething I have found is that if it is foggy, they really shine and the birds don't flare.
Shane, drag you worthless ass on down here and I'll take you puddling in the morning and diver shooting in the afternoon-- I need a bird boy anyway.

Interesting thing about Mojos, I have a lease with an impoundment that is in the middle of a field. My blind is on the berm so I have decoys in the water in front of the blind and on the field behind an to the side. If I put the Mojo out in front with the floaters it gets a little attention, If I put it in the field with the goose decoys mallards and blacks are all over it.
But like Dave said, geese don't like the sumbich at all. In our area 9 days out of 10 the duck action is the 1st hour of daylight and geese don't fly till after 8:30. So at 8:30 we remove the mojo from the spread.
Also, cans and blackheads and redheads are absolute fools for a Mojo.

Stop staring at my Avatar.
We use mojos in the fields with a lot of sucess... On the other hand I do not use a mojo when I hunt public land in DE, the main reason being that a lot of people have 3 of 4 spinning at a time. Multiply that by 20 plus blinds per WMA and the birds get real used to seeing them, I find that I do better without the mojo on the public marshes... I would never go in the field without one, unless I was hunting geese they hate it...

Sell it and get a wonderduck. Paddling feet and wings. DOES NOT FLARE BIRDS!!!
Mojo's have their place and time in lowlight, foggy days and overcast days. A remote is a must for them. Just make sure you paint both sides so when your remote cuts it off you do not end up with white sides up. It looks very unatural. When they first came out they worked great. I really think the ducks are getting educated on them more and more. All is info is from my experience on puddlers in timber, swamps and creek bottoms. I have never used them for open water birds and divers.

There about like anything else...at times their money at others they flare the hell outta birds. Geese flare really bad with them on. But weve had birds try to land on top of the thing and had others flare off on the first look. Id deff. get a remote though...and like brian said, paint the white side of the wings.
