well this moring it was pouring rain so we decided to wait a little bit before we got into stand. got in the stand at around 8 30. saw a button around 9. thats it.
went to another farm to do some stand work. came back to our farm in powellville and went in the woods. it was around two when we got back in. tried some rattling around 3 and this buck came walking out of nowhere. my dad was facing the other way and i tapped him and told him not to move because the deer was locked in on our stand. so the deer went behind a tree and my dad eased down into the seat of the stand. he stayed behind the tree for what seemed like forever. he knew something was not right. well finally he took a step out....
i told my dad he is kinda young. when he turned his head to the side you could tell he had decent antlers though. the deer took one more step into the opening and my dad said shoot him. i was a little bit shakey, and once the crosshairs were in the the correct place i squeezed. could not tell if i hit it or not. i felt pretty confident with an accurate 243 at about 50 yards.
well we watched him run with his tail down(good sign) until we could not see him anymore. waited a little while and my dad got down to see if there was any sign of a hit. well he sees the tracks and starts following him. turns out the deer fell in a ditch about 50 yards away. i was really excitied. hit him in the heart, a few inches low of were i was aiming. the 243 did some good damage.
8 pt.
not as big as my youth day buck last year. but i am still very proud.
i would like to thank my dad for taking me hunting today, and getting me into the outdoors. what a great experience!
